VanDerKolk Painting Purchases Kooi Industrial Painting

Combining Operations Brings More Options for Clients

Tom VanDerKolkGrand Rapids, MI- VanDerKolk Painting, Inc., a 25-year mainstay in the residential and commercial painting field, has purchased Kooi Industrial Painting, an industry leader for 90 years.

Tom Van Der Kolk, President of VanDerKolk Painting, explains the importance of this acquisition: “VanDerKolk Painting has always offered our customers the best in residential and commercial painting. Now we will be able to offer even more options with the addition of Kooi’s exceptional services, while at the same time strengthening our existing platform in industrial paint markets.”

Kooi Industrial Painting was founded in Grand Rapids in 1927, and has the reputation or superior industrial sand blasting and painting services. Boasting the largest sand blasting facility in Michigan, Kooi has the capabilities to handle any size industrial project. “This is perhaps the most exciting opportunity for me,” says VanDerKolk, as he mentions immediate plans for the facility at 225 Graham St. SW to be improved. “Multiple sand blasting booths and paint booths will enable multiple shifts to handle the volume of work already scheduled for 2017. VanDerKolk adds that “The new booths are large enough for semi-trailers, yet equipped to handle small jobs as well.”

“Kooi is literally etched on the history of West Michigan,” says VanDerKolk. “Kooi painted the namesake Calder in downtown GR when it was first installed, the Sixth Street Bridge, and the Amway Grand Plaza Hotel. These are some of the most visible sites and places in our community that Kooi has had a hand in preserving and painting. We are thrilled to make these services available to our customers, and continue to serve Kooi’s clients with customer focused excellence.”
